Christine Snow-Reaser grew up in the oceanside town of Old Orchard
Beach. She first took up running to get in shape for basketball in
the summer of 1980, competing in the AAU track and Field Championship,
where she won the 200- and 400-meter dashes. After having achieved
this early track success, Christine competed in cross-country her
freshman year of high school. Her first state championship came during
indoor track, where she won the 600-meter dash setting the state record
at that time. Christine battled through injuries and illness the next
year but got back on track her junior year, winning the Class C State
Cross-Country Championship. She competed in the AAU Nationals that
year, earning All-American honors in Kansas. She continued her winning
ways in outdoor track and field, taking the mile at the Class C State
Championships and placing 3rd, in the 3000 meters, at the AAU Nationals
at the University of Notre Dame.
During Christine’s senior year she won the Class C State Championship
a 3rd time in a row, and finished 3rd at the T.A.C. National Championship,
leading her Maine team to a national title. One of her greatest running
accomplishments came on the Bowdoin College campus, in 104-degree
temperatures, when Christine won the 800, 1600, and 3200 meters, leading
the Old Orchard Beach girls team to their first State Championship
Title ever, an event governed by the Maine State Principals Association.
She set the Class C record in the 3200 meters that still stands today,
at 10.53. That summer Christine won the 10,000 meters at the Junior
Olympics at LSU, with a time of 35.30 and she was featured in Sports
Illustrated Magazine’s “Faces In the Crowd.” Christine
continued her stellar running career, earning a scholarship to Eastern
Kentucky University. There she led her team to four Ohio Valley Conference
Cross-Country Titles, winning two individual titles her freshman and
senior years. She set two school track records, in the 2-mile and
the 3000 meters. She was also a member of the 4 x 1500 meter relay
team – a team that set a national record at North Carolina State
University.
When Christine was finished her collegiate career she was one of
the most accomplished runners ever to run for Eastern Kentucky, and
was chosen as a member of the All-Time Ohio Valley Conference Team.
After college Christine turned her focus to road racing and marathons.
She placed 3rd two times at the Marine Corps Marathon, in 1989 and
1991 respectively. In 1991 Christine won the Columbia Marathon, dedicating
her performance to her husband and brother, both of whom were serving
in the armed forces, in the Gulf War.
Christine came back home to her native Maine in 1993 and has won
numerous road races and track events, setting many course records
along the way. In 1996 Christine qualified for and competed in the
Olympic Marathon Trials in Columbia, South Carolina. In 2001 and 2002
Christine won the Maine division competition for women at the Beach
to Beacon 10K and, in 2006 after turning 40, won the Maine Masters
Women’s Division, placing as 3rd overall master, at Beach to
Beacon. With all her championships – from the 200 meters to
3200 meters, cross-country and the marathon – throughout her
career, Christine is arguably one of the finest all-around runners
ever to come out of the State of Maine.
Christine is a Registered Nurse. She lives in the town of Dayton, with her
husband Rick, and three children, Mark, Erica and Luke.
